Canterbury Cathedral

We left Victoria Station for Canterbury on Sunday morning and enjoyed the train. The town of Canterbury is amazingly charming and the architecture reflects the character of a town important even before the arrival of St. Augustine in 597. The highlight is Canterbury Cathedral which was built in 1070 and then added on and reflects all styles of medieval architecture. It exhibited classic fan vaults and was the desired choice of Harry Potter movie makers, but the local clergy did not like some of the symbols and turned down the opportunity to have the movie filmed here. We enjoyed the service, especially the choir. They even sang Mozart’s Ave Verum and Coronation Mass. We bought a holiday CD which we will share. Dreamy day.
